The 4th annual conference of The Telemedicine Society of India(TSI), Odisha Chapter (Oditelecon 2015) was organized by TSI, Odisha Chapter jointly with Nehru Satabdi Central Hospital, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited(MCL), Talcher, Odisha on 12th April 2015. The venue for the conference was N S Central Hospital, Talcher. Indian Medical Association, Talcher branch and Angul branch supported the scientific event. 121 delegates attended the conference. Dr. S S Shukla, Chief of Medical Services, MCL Hqrs., Burla was the organizing chairman and Dr.Manoj K Behera, senior surgeon from the N S Central Hospital, Talcher was the organizing secretary.

A workshop on “Basics of Telemedicine” was held from 9.00am to 11.00am on the same day. Dr.B S Ratta, president of TSI was the convener of the workshop. VC System was demonstrated by Sony India Pvt. Ltd. and S-Cube Consultancy Services, Kolkata. Mr.S S Narwariya from CDAC, Pune spoke on telemedicine software with special emphasis on Mercury & Nimbus. Mr.M K Mallick, AGM BSNL, Bhubaneswar explained the participants regarding   terrestrial connectivity available in Odisha to support telemedicine services. Dr.B S Ratta discussed in detail as to how a telemedicine platform can be established in a health institution.

The conference was inaugurated by President of Telemedicine Society of India  Dr.B S Ratta. Prof.B N Mohanty, President-elect, TSI Odisha chapter presided over the meeting. Dr.S S Shukla delivered welcome address. 

Prof.S K Mishra, past-president of TSI delivered a lecture over vc from SGPGIMS,Lucknow on “Govt of India Initiatives to use Telemedicine as a tool  for enhancing knowledge sharing”  and Dr.R Kim, past Jt. Secretary of TSI delivered a lecture over VC on “Tele-ophthalmology service for people of Rural India” from Arvind Eye Hospital, Madurai. The invited speakers for the conference were Prof. P K Pradhan from SGPGIMS, Lucknow;  Prof.S N Senapati from Regional Cancer Center, Cuttack; Prof.I B Kar from SCB Dental College, Cuttack. Dr. Pallavi Bhuyan talked on Role of Tele-Pathology in skill enhancement and Dr.Kaushik Mishra delivered a lecture on “Role of Telemedicine in augmenting public health service”.

Dr. Bhabagrahi Rath  from Burla, Dr.Sibananda Mohanty from Baripada and Dr.Anusaya Das from Satya Sai Institute, Bhubaneswar talked on their experiences on the use of telemedicine facility in their institutions

A panel discussion on “Telemedicine Technology enabled health care-Role of Health institutions and Professional bodies” was held in the afternoon moderated by Dr.B N Mohanty. The panelists were Dr. B S Ratta , President TSI, Pune; Dr. P.K.Pradhan, Exe. Com. Member of TSI,Lucknow; Dr. Biswajit Mohapatra, ,senior surgeon from Vesaj Patel Hospital, Rourkela; Dr. P.K.Panda, president, IMA Branch, Talcher and Dr.A K Mohanty , secretary of TSI, Odisha Chapter.

There were 19 speakers in the conference from 16 different organizations. Medical professionals from NALCO Hospital, Angul ; IMA branch Angul; IMA branch  Talcher; Super Thermal Power Station Hospital, Kaniha and Dist. Hqrs. hospital,Angul attended the conference in good number. Telemedicine nodal officers and telemedicine technical personnel from  Govt. Medical colleges & District Hqrs. hospitals attended the conference. Govt. permission was granted to all of them with provision of TA for attending the conference. 

The Annual General Body Meeting of The TSI, Odisha Chapter was held on the same day at 3.30pm... The following members were unanimously elected as office bearers of the state chapter for the term 2015-2016.

1. Wider use of Telemedicine facility for patient Follow-up.

2. Establishment of a Telemedicine Center at N S Central Hospital, Talcher for benefit of all employees of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. and all medical professionals working in various MCL hospitals of Odisha.
