Mr. Ashok Kumar Sangal

Mr. Sangal has about 39 years of experience in Satellite communication and in its applications for societal development. A first class M. Tech. in Communication engineering he was associated with SITE and telecommunications programmes viz. STEP, AUP under various capacities. He was member of International Satellite Navigation System study group and also International Search and Rescue (Cospas Sarsat) Program. He has worked in almost all fields of satellite based mobile communication viz. shipborne, aeromobile and other mobile communication systems, microwave communication, networking and System engineering.

He is widely travelled and won UN fellowship at European Space Agency during 1984-85, where he was associated with Eutelsat and Olympus space programs. He was involved with laying down specifications of various European ground segment systems for in-orbit checkout of spacecrafts. He was deeply involved in INSAT system studies.

Worked as Group Director in ISRO & Deputy Program Director (Network). Under the program he was involved in assisting establishment of Integrated Development Communication Networks and Uplinks in all the states of country which also extensively supported e governance and healthcare during post Tsunami operations. Also involved with establishing Village Resources Centres (VRC) to support integrated services like remote health workers training and tele-education.

He was actively involved in establishing telemedicine networks in J & K, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Andaman’s and other remote regions as a part of telemedicine program. He was also Chairman of organizing committee for National level Users’ meet during 2002 & 2007 and member organising committee of International Telemedicine and e-health conference (IsfTeH), 2007. He represented internationally at Cospas - Sarsat & Inmarsat and at ITU in UK, South Africa, Israel etc.

He has presented several papers in telemedicine practice nationally and internationally. Post retirement worked as Director to broadcast engineering industry.

He has been advisor, consultant to several states & corporate organisations for distance learning and developmental networks. He is Fellow member of IETE and Life Member of Astronomical Society of India, Indian Geomagnetic Society (IGS) & Indian Metrological Society, Indian Association of Medical Informatics (IAMI), Telemedicine Society of India(TSI).
